Wine List

2007 will no doubt be bringing in some exciting new wines onto the list. One year in the kitchen has left me even more hungry for the cutting edge, the characters & the vibrancy … the list is changing, I hope you enjoy it. It is, as always, hugely personal and balances some of the best examples of the classics with some eccentric flashes of what can be achieved in the cellars & vineyards throughout the Northern & Southern hemisphere. Spain quietly imposes itself on the list & quite rightly so. Along with the Cape, Southern France & Australia, I feel that these are the more progressive outcrops in the world’s vineyards. Please don’t hesitate to ask if we can be of any assistance …

Champagne

I have chosen to feature one of the region’s great wines, Champagne Deutz as our house pouring champagne. It has style, finesse & character and offers an opulent start to your experience at bruntonside.

Champagne Deutz, nv £36.00
By the glass £7.95
Champagne Veuve Clicquot, nv £45.00
Champagne Deutz, 1999 £55.00
Champagne Deutz, rosé, nv £55.00
Champagne Bollinger, nv £60.00
Champagne Deutz, L’amour de Deutz, blanc de blancs, 1997 £99.00
Champagne Krug, Grande Cuvee, nv £110.00
Champagne Deutz, Cuvee William Deutz, 1988 (magnum) £130.00

Rosé

With the blistering sun & high temperatures that we’ve experienced this summer, sales of rosé have been phenomenal this year! The Pampelonne is classic southern France … crisp, light & elegant with summer fruit & herbs. The two Australians ooze riper red fruit characters, the brilliant Yering especially is stylish, lush & silky similar in style to Sancerre rosés whilst the ‘fruit cocktail’ from our friends Diane & Dave Palmer at Skillogalee is firm & drier in structure.

Ch. de Pampelonne, Provence, France, 2006 £18.95
By the 175 ml glass £4.95
Pinot Noir, rosé, Yering Station, Yarra Valley, Australia, 2005 £22.00
By the 175 ml glass £5.75
Cabernet/Malbec, rosé, Skillogalee, Clare Valley, Australia, 2005 £22.00
By the glass £5.75

White wines

Sauvignon Blancs, Semillon & the blends …

2. Sauvignon Blanc, Buitenverwachting, Constantia, South Africa, 2006 £18.95
The Sauvignon has so much finesse, it’s clean, fragrant & ‘raspingly’ grassy with a beautiful
purity of fruit so typical of Constantia and if there ever was a bigger endorsement,
my wife & I used it at our wedding. Wonderful!
4. Sauvignon Blanc, Amaral, San Antonio Valley, Chile, 2006 £22.00
The real ‘buzz name’ in Chilean Sauvignon is the San Antonio region. Clean, herbaceous
with beautiful fruit concentration & a dry, grassy finish.
5. Sauvignon Blanc, Hidden Valley, Stellenbosch, South Africa, 2006 £24.00
Overkill on Cape Sauvignon? Maybe … This is new kid on the block stuff … blisteringly good.
6. Sauvignon Blanc, Nr. 7, Hermanuspietersfontein, Walker Bay, South Africa, 2006 £25.00
Oh, go on then, but just another Cape Sauvignon this isn’t !!! Made by the truly gifted Bartho
Eksteen, this is a ‘helluva’ mouthful in more ways than one. What a name! & what a huge burst
of fruit dissected with a deliciously austere, mineral content.
The ‘HPF’ as we will call it is ‘TCS’ – that’s Top class stuff !
7. Sancerre, Domaine de Clairneaux, Jean Marie Berthier, Loire, France, 2006 £26.00
8. Sauvignon Blanc, Iona, Elgin, South Africa, 2006 £26.50
Deriliously happy with this Sauvignon these days. Having just received 4 &1/2 stars from
the revered ‘John Platter Guide’ in the Cape, I will happily announce that “I told you so!”.
9. Le Charmes Godard, Cotes de Francs, France, 2001 £27.50
10. Pouilly Fumé, Ch. Favray, Loire, France, 2005 £29.50
I will quietly offer this as ‘a great wine to be’ when the wine hacks finally get around to applauding it -organically produced whenever possible, this captures typicity whilst bringing a remarkable concentration of fruit. A great wine.
11. Sauvignon Blanc, Tokara, Walker Bay, South Africa, 2006 £33.50
12. Sauvignon blanc/Semillon, Suckfizzle, Margaret River, Western Australia, 2004 £35.00
13. Sauvignon Blanc, Cloudy Bay, Wairau river, New Zealand, 2006 £37.50
14. Fume blanc, Domaine A, Tasmania, Australia, 2004 £39.00

Pinot Grigios/Gris …

15. Pinot Grigio, Castel Firmian, Mezzacorona, Trentino, Italy, 2006 £17.00
Well, who hasn’t heard of Pinot Grigio? This is a fine example of ‘PG’ in its most
simplistic & appealing form.
16. Pinot Gris, Innocent Bystander, Victoria, Australia, 2006 £22.50
A recent find from one of our favourite Australian stables. Clean, with exotic touches of
white peach, pears & a delicious mouthfeel.

Rieslings …

20. Riesling, Duckbill, Western Australia, 2006 £17.95
A sort of second label of the Howard Park empire … a phenomenally consistent source
of stunning wines from the region. Clean, juicy fruit studded with elegant ‘Thai spice’
characters on a mouth-puckeringly dry finish.
21. Riesling, Thelema Mountain Vineyards, Stellenbosch, South Africa, 2004 £21.00
Delicate & beautifully crafted ‘Mosel-like’ example but then you would expect nothing
else of Gyles Webb. I idolise the terroir before him !
22. Riesling, Pewsey Vale, Eden Valley, Australia, 2006 £22.00
Arguably the best source of Ozzie Riesling, the Eden Valley produces some beautiful wines.
This is ‘Superstar-status riesling’. Louisa Rose from the Yalumba stable crafts a
juicy, clean & world class wine.
23. Riesling, Skillogalee, Clare Valley, Australia, 2005 £24.00
This is a remarkable wine … the array of flavours are from ginger & limes all the way deliciously
through to lemon grass & flower blossom with a bone-dry & pure finish. This is one of my
favourite ‘food wines’ on the list.
24. Riesling, ‘Les Elements’, Bott-Geyl, Alsace, France, 2004 £25.00
One of the best value French Rieslings that I’ve come across … dry, austere with lovely
apple & limey characters.
25. Ürziger Würzgarten, Kabinett, Dr. Pauly Bergweiler, Mosel, Germany, 2002 £26.50
26. Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr, Spatlese, Willi Haag, Mosel, Germany, 2002 £29.50
27. Eroica, Ch. Ste Michelle/Dr. Loosen, Washington State, USA, 2004 £32.00
Hugely impressive collaboration between North American giants & one of Germany’s finest.
28. Riesling, The Florita, Jim Barry, Clare Valley, Australia, 2004 £37.50
Just read Jancis Robinson’s recent tasting note where she compares this to the great wines
from Trimbach’s Clos ste Hune vineyard… ‘This is a savoury Riesling – no flowers, no petrol,
no bitterness, no austerity … lovely texture … sleek.’. The Florita vineyard supplied
most of the fruit for the great Riesling from Leo Buring in the ‘60s & ‘70s, it’s back.
29. Riesling, Cuvée Frédéric Emile, Trimbach, Alsace, France, 2003 £37.50

Chardonnays …

32. Macon Farges, Domaine Talmard, Burgundy, France, 2005 £19.50
This is a wonderful Macon. I can only admire great Chardonnay producers of this style.
35. Chardonnay, Innocent Bystander, Victoria, Australia, 2005 £24.00
Really well balanced Chardonnay delivering citrus, toasty flavours with toned ripeness.
34. Chablis, J-M. Brocard, Burgundy, France, 2005 £24.50
Classically made, they craft a delicate & firm style which I have always been attracted to.
36. Bramìto del Cervo, Castello della Sala, Umbria, Italy, 2006 £26.50
The Castello della Sala is an enchanting estate owned by Tuscan specialists, Antinori.
Seriously good with mineral notes & a tremendous purity of delectable fruit
( blackcurrant leaf & lemons ?), firm structure & elegant touches of oak.
38. Chardonnay, Simon Bize, Burgundy, France, 2004 £29.50
Proper Burgundy from a proper domaine boasting polished, well balanced
structure with a ‘really tasty finish’.
39. St. Aubin, premier cru, ‘Le Charmois’,
Ch. de Chassagne Montrachet, Burgundy, France, 2002 £29.50
Cote de Beaune in a real classical, tight, north Burgundian style.
40. Chablis, premier cru, Fourchaume, Fevre, Burgundy, France, 2004 £33.00
Very impressive, firm & text book Fourchaume – slightly fatter with great structure.
41. Chablis, premier cru, Montmains, Louis Michel, Burgundy, France, 2004 £35.00
42. Rully, premier cru, Gresigny, Albert Sounit, Burgundy, France, 2003 £35.00
Outstanding Cote Chalonnaise chardonnay, stylishly built with citrus & toasty characters.
43. Chardonnay, Tokara, Stellenbosch, South Africa, 2004 £35.00
If the Sauvignon from this estate is the Cape’s Cloudy Bay then what lies ahead for this Chardonnay? It’s got so much muscle balanced with style & finesse.
45. Chassagne Montrachet, Bernard Moreau, Burgundy, France, 2005 £42.00
Superb Chassagne Montrachet as always …
46. Puligny Montrachet, Etienne Sauzet, Burgundy, France, 2002 £60.00
48. Chassagne Montrachet, premier cru, Chenevottes,
Michel Neillon, Burgundy, France, 2002 £75.00

Other Varietals & obscure blends …

50. Chenin Blanc, Kanu, Stellenbosch, South Africa, 2006 £14.50
by the 175 ml glass £3.75
Pure & clean fruit with nicely balanced structure & a medium bodied/off-dry feel,
I have got so much time for this wine from one of the Cape’s top Chenin stables.
51. Verdejo/Viura, Monte Alina, Rueda, Spain, 2006 £14.50
by the 175 ml glass £3.75
Refreshing with ‘Sauvignon-like’ pungency and a dry, fruit packed palate. It remains a
real favourite of staff & customers alike.
53 Chenin Blanc, Mulderbosch, Stellenbosch, South Africa, 2005 £18.95
Delicious, off-dry, ‘Vouvray-styled’ wine, it has a succulence of fruit that is brilliantly toned
on the palate with crisp, clean finish
54. MVR, Yering Station, Victoria, Australia, 2005 £22.00
A blindingly good Marsanne, Roussanne & Viognier mix from one of our favourite Victorian producers.
56. Gewurztraminer, Skillogalee, Clare Valley, Australia, 2005 £27.50
Close your eyes & think Alsace … not many winemakers outside of the region could
boast this.
57. Viognier, Spice Route, Swartland, South Africa, 2006 £24.50
58. Gruner Veltliner, Kamptaler Terrassen,
Willi Brundlmayer, Alte Reben, Austria, 2006 £24.50
Elegant & polished, Brundlmayer’s Gruner Veltliners display text book citrus & white peppercorn characters with a crisp, ‘rapier like’ finish. A brilliant example of this stunning ‘foodie’ varietal, I drink this with smoked salmon, it’s a fabulous match.
60. Albarino, Castel de Bouza, Rias Baxias, Spain, 2006 £26.50
Native grape of Galicia, this is super stuff. The ultimate seafood wine, crisp, lemony with super vibrant, zippy & succulent mouthfeel.
61. Gewurztraminer, Schloesselreben, Bott-Geyl, Alsace, France, 2004 £30.00
Text book stuff … aromatic, complex, intense & muscular, just sublime … it renews a long admired faith in this truly classic varietal.
64. Pinot Nero blanco, Mancini, Pesaro, Italy, 2004 £40.00
The ‘one bottle on the list I should try before I die’ inclusion. It’s pinot noir but not as we know it, Jim … 28 people at our Pinot tasting in November can’t be wrong !!! This is a beauty, it’s got chardonnay characters (oak influence?) with leafy & red fruit touches. White wine from a black grape? yeh, this is a list that rocks !

Red Wine

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot & the Bordeaux blend …

75. Merlot, de Gras, Colchagua Valley, Chile, 2005 £14.50
by the 175 ml glass £3.75
Silky & lush textures, very drinkable with warm, plum & bramble fruit oozing out of the glass.
76. Cabernet Sauvignon, Klein Steenberg, Constantia, South Africa, 2005 £14.50
by the 175 ml glass £3.75
I go back to this wine frequently for a deliciously structured example of good Cabernet.
It’s not a blockbuster, it harnesses a leafy, wild herbal, cedar, spicy & restrained flavour profile. It has outshone any Claret that I have tasted at this price point.
77. Carmenere, Adobe, Colchagua Valley, Chile, 2006 £19.00
It’s very easy these days to produce organic wines in South America. However, I have to say the quality of the wines produced using this method has been very impressive. This is an overlooked varietal in the Bordeaux portfolio but has settled harmoniously in the region. A fantastic example – undeniably Chilean but deeply complex with fascinating fruit surges.
78. ‘CPS’, Bush Vines, Cloof, Darling, South Africa, 2004 £22.50
A great wine, the ‘Cape blend’ finally has established itself with a phenomenal benchmark
from Cloof. The blend is 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Pinotage & 27% Shiraz – it collects
rave reviews whenever it is sampled.
79. The Cover Drive, Jim Barry, Clare Valley, South Australia, 2004 £22.50
80. St. Emilion, Ch. Cotes du Gros Caillou, Bordeaux, France, 2005 £24.00
82. Cabernet Sauvignon, Intriga, Maipo Valley, Chile, 2005 £25.00
83. Clos de los Siete, Michel Rolland, Mendoza, Argentina, 2003/04 £26.50
Michel Rolland produces a definite and highly criticised super-ripe & oak infused style
of wine from around the world. This Pomerol based, highly influential, ‘super-flying’ wine
consultant has over 100 clients in over 12 countries. From Bordeaux, India, South Africa
through USA and onto Argentina, his style is remarkably ‘uniformed’ & ‘global’ –
inky black colours, luxurious fruit textures with lashings of oak – welcome to his pleasuredome.
85. Cabernet Sauvignon, Vasse Felix, Western Australia, 2003 £27.50
86. Catharina, Steenberg, Constantia, South Africa, 2003 £29.50
This is a wine that commands a formidable reputation in the Cape and has charmed
so many. One of the best Cape Bordeaux blends.
87. Cabernet Franc/Sauvignon, Merlot, Cloof, Darling, South Africa, 2003 £28.50
91. Il Bruciato, Guado al tasso, Bolgheri, Italy, 2004 £30.00
The little wine of the outstanding ‘Super Tuscan’ Guado al tasso estate produced from young
vines or in ‘off vintages’. ‘Il Bruciato’, the ugly one, I think is the translation, however ugly
this wine is most definitely not. A great value, stylish & forward Cabernet/Merlot/Syrah blend.
94. Cabernet Sauvignon, Thelema, Stellenbosch, South Africa, 2004 £35.00
96. The Menzies, Cabernet Sauvignon, Yalumba, Coonawarra, South Australia, 2002 £45.00
99. Sassicaia, Marchesi Incisa della Rochetta, Bolgheri, Italy, 1999 £150.00
Shiraz/Syrah & ‘Syrah dominant’ blends …

100. Shiraz, Billi Billi, Mount Langhi, Victoria, Australia, 2003 £17.50,
103. Shiraz, Duckbill, Western Australia, 2004 £19.50
Delicious layers of chocolate, herbal & ‘cool region’ black fruit & plum flavours with good oak integration & spicey length … and if that doesn’t sell a wine then nothing will!
104. Shiraz/Viognier, Innocent Bystander, Victoria, Australia, 2004 £24.50
A hugely fashionable direction amongst Oz Shiraz producers. The addition of a white wine (Viognier) to the country’s great red hope lifts this to silky, ethereal & complex heights.
105. Shiraz, Thelema Mountain Vineyards, Stellenbosch, South Africa, 2003 £28.50
106. Shiraz, Skillogalee, Clare Valley, Australia, 2003 £29.50
Another great Ozzie Shiraz, Dave & Diane Palmer met at Stirling Uni circa ‘73/’74 (Diane’s from Callander!), fell in love and eventually set up in Clare (arguably ‘God’s country’ in South Australia?) – stylish with a super-ripe & forward appeal. It’s drinking beautifully now.
107. Crozes Hermitages, La Tuiliere, Jean-Luc Colombo, Northern Rhone, France, 2004 £28.50
This estate has burst onto the scene with some exceptional wines over the past 10 years.
I find them a ‘bit modern for the classicists’ but so bewildering in quality that you must try.
110. Shiraz, Crucible, Cloof, Darling, South Africa, 2003 £39.50
Sublime Cape Shiraz boasting multiple award-winning credentials. It bursts with a chocolate
& black fruit laden nose with a huge, beefy ‘Rhone-styled’ palate that lives forever on the palate.
111. Shiraz, Max’s Garden, Two Hands, Heathcote, Victoria, Australia, 2003 £66.00
A nod to my step-son, Max and what a wine! Heathcote is a stunning region that has quietly
been developing a reputation for serious Shiraz and was brought to my attention by a
wonderful character named John Avard whilst visiting my brother & his partner in Victoria.
The Two Hands is a breathtaking, ‘cult shiraz’ that charms, seduces then blows you away!
114. Shiraz, The Armagh, Jim Barry, Clare Valley, Australia, 2002 £125.00
I am very suspicious of ratings … this was a great Armagh – I ‘graced’ their vines with my presence through the vintage even drinking a bottle of the ’90 amongst one of the many beautiful rows of this spectacular vineyard with Peter Barry. However, when the highly influential Bob Parker jnr. (wine guru) throws up a 99/100 in the Wine Advocate, we have supply problems. It’s a hugely concentrated wine with stunning complexity.

Grenache, Carignan, Mourvedre …

120. Coteaux du Tricastin, Delas Freres, Southern Rhone, France, 2005 £14.50
by the 175 ml glass £3.75
Silky & perfumed Grenache based wine with good colour, medium bodied, grippy, brambley fruit from one of the Rhone’s most distinguished estates.
121. Vin de pays d’Oc, La Garrigue, Domaine st. Rose, Southern France, 2004 £16.95
Produced by Charles & Ruth Simpson, a couple of Brits who had the romantic idea of setting up their own vineyard in 2002. Already the quality of their wines is excellent. This is a blend of Grenache, Syrah & Carignan - big in colour, flavour and very modern in style.
122. Costieres des Nimes, Ch. Mas Neuf, Southern Rhone, France, 2004 £17.95
This is a great little wine with ‘quirky’ complexity. It triggers fond memories of visits to the region. A blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre & Carignan, it is showing brilliantly now &
is a fine benchmark for the region.
124. Pic st Loup, Clos des Combes, Ch. de Lancyre, Languedoc, France, 2004 £22.00
A brimful of chunky & rich fruits with aromatic herbs, this is a delicious wine. Super-pure fruit, ripe tannins, another star of the Languedoc.
126. Cotes du Rhone, La Pialade, Ch Rayas, Southern Rhone, France, 2001 £29.50
Rayas is Chateauneuf ! This is their beautifully simple, yet tantalisingly complex Cotes du Rhone from the ‘leftovers in the winery’. A simply delicious & gracious Grenache-based wine offering soft red fruits, hints of wild herb & firm acidity. Poise, charm … everything’s here.
127. Gigondas, Ch. Pesquier, Southern Rhone, France, 2003 £29.50
129. Chateauneuf du pape, Bosquet des Papes, Southern Rhone, France, 2003 £38.50
A graceful and majestic style that sadly, seldom graces this appellation. Grenache
dominant offering ‘typicity’ with a silky, herbal & opulent appeal. A delight.

Tempranillo, Garnacha/Grenache …

130. Tempranillo, Finca Antigua, La Mancha, Spain, 2004 £17.50
Great value red that is text book Spanish with super fruit and nice oak influences. Brilliant wines come from ripe, well cultivated grapes & progressive winemakers. Spain harnesses all this and so much more. This is a section of wines that I will develope. All the wines below are good, honest examples from this vibrant country.
132. La Planta, Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro, Ribera del Duero, Spain, 2005/06 £20.00
La Planta is a hugely attractive Tempranillo – beautifully rich & complex. It’s a ripe & lush fruit driven wine with seductive herbal & spicy characters
134. Juan Rojo, Bodegas Materatondo, Toro, Spain, 2003 £22.50
New to the list. Very un-Iberian but this is what I like about this wine … the fruit is pure & sensual - cassis & plums with flashes of eucalyptus, rosemary, leather & tar.
135. Pago Florentino, Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro, La Mancha, Spain, 2003 £25.00
A big favourite at our recent Spanish wine tasting. Just bursting with flavour.
136. Reserva, Luis Cañas, Rioja, Spain, 1999 £26.50
Stylish Rioja … it sounds almost tiresome in such vibrant times in Spain but this really is
great Rioja.
137. Baboix, Buil & Giné, Montsant, Spain, 2004 £27.50
Pronounced ‘baboish’, a stunning array of characteristics are found amongst this great wine from North East Spain. One of the best Grenache (or Garnacha) and arguably one of the most exciting & ‘new wave’ that I have found recently.
138. Enartis, Dominio de Susar, Marques de Griñon, Rioja, Spain, 1999 £28.50
Showing in absolutely perfect condition. It offers finesse, balance & memorable drinking.
139. Crianza, Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro, Ribera del Duero, Spain, 2003 £29.50
If you will allow me, pull yourself away from Rioja for one night and have a look at a wine that I’m extremely fond of. I’ll leave it at that, it’s so good.
140. Crianza, Pesquera, Ribera del Duero, Spain, 2004 £31.00
At the fore-front of ‘new Spain’ – Alejandro Fernandez is a genius with Tempranillo.
141. Giné Giné, Buil & Giné, Priorat, Spain, 2004 £33.00
142. Reserva, Bodegas Remelluri, Rioja, Spain, 2001 £36.50
Sensational rioja, silky, polished with lovely concentration of fruit
144. Crianza, Bodegas Mauro, Tudelo del Duero, Spain, 2004 £39.50
At last, I have finally sourced this great wine from the highly acclaimed Mariano Garcia,
former wine-maker at Vega Sicilia. It possesses a stunning concentration of inky black
fruit layered with gamey flavours & herbal spices. Brilliant, one of the best wines on the list.

Pinotage …

145. The Cellar blend, Cloof, Darling, South Africa, 2004 £22.50
A real ‘mish mash’ of a blend from the cellar, however the dominant one is Pinotage. “This is a not a wine that will be revered for its subtlety. The Quentin Tarantino remake of Sideways” was how the Cloof website described it! Rich, off the wall with flashy style
147. Pinotage, Cloof, Darling, South Africa, 2002 £25.00
This was one of the first ‘show stopping’ Pinotages that I tasted – Yes, Beyers Truter &
Jan Coetzee have been chiselling out a definite style but I rather like all this rich, alcoholic, muscular and hugely weighted style from this stable. The ’03 marks a slight change in direction with a more European style … it’s stunning, beautifully crafted with a distinguished appearance to it. I hope that this is the future of Cape’s Pinotage.
2003 £27.00

Pinot Noir …

150. Pinot Noir, Momo, Marlborough, New Zealand, 2005 £22.50
Well, another cracking value pinot really showing typical pinot characters of crisp, vibrant
cherries, violets & strawberries – this is text book stuff, lush, silky palate with a warm,
fruit packed finish.
153. Pinot Noir, Giant Steps, Yarra Valley, Australia, 2004 £26.50
The Sexton family took the ‘Giant Step’ in 1997 and sold Devil’s Lair (they were also instrumental
in establishing our favourite Australian brewery, Little Creatures) in Western Australia and
moved to the Yarra Valley. The fruits of their ambition are evident here with stunning
‘burgundian likeness’. Their wine below is stunningly beautiful.
155. Pinot Noir, Yering Station, Yarra Valley, Australia, 2002 £27.50
Another great Yarra pinot, if the Giant steps (above) style is structured and ‘Cotes de Nuits’ ,
then the Yering aims for a more lush, ‘Cotes de Beaune’ angle. It’s purely personal (as wine is
after all?) after that.I would drink & recommend any without hesitation to Burgundian
enthusiasts & pinot worshippers alike.
156. Mercurey, Dureuil-Janthial, Burgundy, France, 2004 £29.00
157. Pinot Noir, Mancini, Focara, Italy, 2003 £29.50
At our recent tasting of pinot noirs, this oddity surprised most with its outstanding finesse & structure & they also make a stunning white from this grape – see No.64 on our list.
159. Pinot Noir, ‘Dijon clones 114 & 115’, Sexton, Yarra Valley, Australia, 2003 £35.00
160. Pinot Noir, Carrick, Otago, New Zealand, 2002 £39.00
One of the great Kiwi pinot stables – rich & attractive with lush, silky fruit.
163. Savigny les Beaune, Les Bourgeots, Simon Bize, Burgundy, France, 1999 £40.00
165. Gevrey Chambertin, Dujac Fils & pere, Burgundy, France, 2004 £40.00

Sangiovese, Corvina & other Italian Varietals, some from across the world …

170. Teroldego Rotaliano Riserva, Mezzacorona, Trentino, Italy, 2001 £16.50
171. Barbera, Briccotondo, Fontanafredda, Piemonte, Italy, 2004/05 £18.50
172. Morellino di Scansano, Tenuta Belguardo-Mazzei, Tuscany, Italy, 2004 £22.00
A Tuscan delight. Produced mainly from Sangiovese grape, this is a wine of great style,
colour and fantastic character.
173. Dolcetto d’Alba, Giacomo Ascheri, Piemonte, Italy, 2005 £20.00
Light & elegant bursting with fresh cherry & red fruits spiked with wild herbal aromas.
175. Passo Doble, Masi Tupungato, Mendoza, Argentina, 2003 /04 £22.00
It’s been a much talked about project involving Amarone specialists Masi & their connections over in Southern America. It is a unique Corvina/Malbec produced using Venetian methods.
177. Dolcetto/Lagrein, Heartland, Langhorne Creek, Australia, 2004 £25.00
This is a captivating example of what the new wave of Ozzie winemakers are producing…
178. Le Volte, Tenuta dell’Ornellaia, Tuscany, Italy, 2004 £22.50
Another little star of Tuscany, Le Volte is a fascinating & harmonious blend of Sangiovese, Merlot & Cabernet & the second wine of the world famous ‘Ornellaia’. Raspberries & wild herbs with silky finish.
180. Chianti Classico, Castello di Fonterutoli, Tuscany, Italy, 2004 £27.50

Dessert & fortified wines …

Muscat de Frontignan, Ch de Stony, Languedoc, France, 2004 hlf btl £14.50

Muscat, Buller’s, Victoria, Australia, nv 70cl btl £35.00

Botrytis Viognier, Yalumba, Wrattonbully, South Australia, 2004 hlf btl £25.00
